People pay for something, they want to get all of it's value. This will inevitably increase certain player's play-times from 50 hours a week to insane addicts at about 150 hours a week. This in turn creates a bigger gap between the rich who devote their lives and have little shrines to these games and dream about them every night and casual players that just want to play with something they already paid for.

This COULD possibly draw a more mature crowd, something you actually have to think about before investing, but even mature people complain... just look at poloticians and just about everyone in a union.

And besides, do you realize that on every box it says "Free On-line Play" and how many lawsuits Arena.net would have in about 0.001 seconds for false advertising? Now calm down, I know what you're thinking, don't put this claim on expansions! Well, if A.net plans on expanding every 6-8 months, then the original will become obsolete.

Well I hate to belabor the obvious but.....
Is everybody serious, friendly and mature in WoW?
Is everbody positive in FFXI?
How about Star Wars Galaxies?
Not bloody likely

Seriously though there just not enough content in this game to keep it interesting enough to charge a monthly fee. Even the most serious GW peeps should know that. And that's not being negative, but people have already played this game over and over multiple times and it's only been a couple of months. People should enjoy this game for what it is and if they get tired move on til the next expansion.

Where did this origional poster come from? Ban him. heh The most rediculous and stupid idea I ever heard and he has no documentation whatsoever to backup his claims that charging a fee gets rid of idiots. Barnum and Bailey both figured it out long ago a "fool is born every minute and most of them live", so just learn to live with them they are here to stay pay or nopay.

I think my post at the top of this page (page 7) was ignored by the OP because he knows I hit the nail on the head....into his coffin.

the thing is, ppl here are compairing apples to oranges. games like EQ2, WoW, and SWG that require monthy fees are, well, totally different. the only thing that they have in common with GW is the name "mmo". games like SWG dont have inctancing, which is kinda why u pay. GW would have to change to that type of game to be able to justify a fee. also, GW is too easy to beat. i beat it in under 2 months, and i was NOT playing hard with my main. i dont think too many ppl would stay only for the pvp. games like SWG can justify a fee b/c its like imposible to beat it! theirs always something left to do; like get one of like 2 or 3 suits of mandalorian armor on each server.
if i were to play hard, i think i could beat GW in under 2 weeks. i would probably leave then if i had to keep paying. many other people would do that too.

if u can beat it, a monthly fee wont work

the only problem is that if they start charging.. people start leaving the game, i dont think alot of people would pay monthly fees for it.. thats why people play this game instead of WOW or any other game u would have to pay for.. the benefit of this game is that its free.

Amen to that, I'd leave too.

This is a game for people who DON'T GAME that seriously. If you have no life and money to waste, go play another game. I have a job, a g/f, a music video editing hobby, and other games to play.

I DON'T NEED NO FREAKIN' monthly fee to FORCE me to play the game to get my money's worth...

Keep this suggestion to yourself as of this writing, I've run into more mature and feasible gamers here in GW then any other p2p game I've played.

You want to grind? Grind yourself somewhere else...

Ummm... no...

Not everyone plays this game because it's free, some of us just wanted a different experience.

I play Star Wars, and have been paying the fee for two years. I started paying because I wanted to see the game, I continue to pay to this day because I enjoy the experience. Everytime I've started to get bored with it, they've changed something, added an expansion, I've met new interesting players to hang with... something ALWAYS draws me back.

Guild Wars at this moment has only one thing going for it... I have some great guild members who are fun to play with. We can always find something to do together... even if it's a rehash of an old mission, we can make it interesting and fun. Without that... I'd probably be playing Star Wars all the time again until the next GW expansion comes out.

I have to agree with Lt. Crumpet here... since GW has an "end game" that can't REALLY justify a fee... Diablo II was the same. SW:G, WoW, CoH, EQ2 and any other similar game can't be "beaten"... you have missions that can be finished, but basically the whole game is one big explorable area with stuff to do in it... because of the kind of content they HAVE to charge a fee to constantly provide it. It really is, as Lt Crumpet says, comparing apples to oranges...

Oh I was here then, so yeah I am aware of that.

What I am also certain of, is that this thread needs to die. We all know the guy's reading this and wanting so bad to write up a response that it will happen, but he also knows he is being read by mods too, so an arrogant, flippant, non-thought out response from him would be telling himself off.

No, I think he just wanted to stir up some controversy, and he got what he wanted. The time has come though. Kill this POS. Please

I would leave if a monthly fee were charged.
yes. the answer is most definately 42. and yes, i would leave if a monthly fee were charged. My bf plays FFXI, and at often he gets pissed at the game because he de-lvld due to some idiot aggroing something and getting them all killed, or it takes two hours to get a party together, or..well it just seems so frustrating...you can die as many times as you want in guild wars and not de-lvl, and you can go out with hench in most instances if you cant find a party...Guild wars just seems so different from all the other MMORPGs out there, i dont think it would do it justice to charge a monthly fee...sure i'll pay for all the expansions they care to make, but heck, im headed to college this fall, and wont have too much time for GW sadly , so i like that i can leave it for a bit and come back, and i wont have wasted any money to keep my account open, and i wont have to worry about them deleting my characters because i didnt keep up with some monthly payment. and thats my 2cents.

I came from EQ (subscription) and D2(free) -- both had the same problems mentioned as GW.

I haven't quite read all of the thread yet, but I can say this.

Ignore them.

It's as simple as that. Ignore the stupid people, there's a reason for the Chat Filters and being allowed to turn off each chat channel.

However, if you're stuck in a PvP-battle with a loser who does nothing but run for fourty-five minutes, then you have something to complain about when it comes to low-IQ jerks ruining the game.

That jerk won the fight by running and making my party leave the fight. Not fair.

But the fact of the matter is, I was finally able to enjoy a game such as this because of the "free" aspect. My dad would never pay for a monthly fee (he didn't for Fairyland when I asked him), and I don't have a credit card myself, yet.

Keeping the game free will allow many more players to access the game, even if they are retarded and have a brain half the size of a rat-turd. Just ignore them and in the sense of my PvP-incident, leave the fight knowing you were the better player.

It's like school -- a couple of kids are acting stupid in class, the whole class has to suffer, not being allowed to leave when the bell rings. If they charged a monthly fee for GW, it would make all of the legitimate players who bought the game because of it being "free" be forced to pay a fee they weren't stuck with in the beginning...and for what?

All to get rid of the losers. It's a good proposition, but a rather flawed idea at most.

Anyone who thinks that a simple monthly fee will stop stupid people from joining GW is out of touch with reality. In every area of life, there are stupid people, and you have to deal with them. The only difference in GW is that the consequences for misbehavior/bad etiquette are so minor, some people just don't care who they piss off.

In the same way, every area of life has complainers/whiners. People who pay nothing for a service often percieve it as less valuable than for a similar service which they would have to pay for, regardless of whether they can afford the nonfree service. Also, as some have mentioned, people who pay for a service often have a sense of entitlement to a good game.

On a side note, people who complain about the ingame economy, why do you expect anet to be perfect? Even the US gov. has problems like, i don't know, maybe a 6 trillion dollar debt? They're game developers, not economists.

You got what you paid for, now shut up and enjoy the game.
